This is fine for a marketing piece, but when appealing to technical types this is not the most assured way of doing it. Because I am sure that HURD will be great as well, along with Duke Nukem Whenever.
Just to clarify, what’s “going to be great” is the designer toolkit. JavaFX already exists and is great.
He used the phrase “kick ass” repeatedly where he was describing functionality and intention of this platform. Perhaps more precise technical language would have worked better, as I have worked hard to keep ass out of my computers.
Wake me when my 3GHz PC takes less than 15 seconds to spawn a trivial JavaFX applet from my browser
when you get a 46MBps connection like that old Norwegian lady. it takes time to download to your computer.
all three are probably great platforms, but I suspect that silverlight will win 1st place with Flex a decent but farther back second and JavaFX in a close 3rd (taking over after a few years from Flex as 2nd)
JavaFX and Silverlight were built to be platforms and integrate well into mature language runtimes. FLex is a platform tacked onto Flash and will only be popular because of Flash. Once the benefits of JFX and SL are realized, Flex is doomed and Flash along with it.
Well, developer excited by his toys, that happens. I used to be a developer, so I confess I am the same, who is not, after all? 🙂
So, what is JavaFX? Guys got bored by all that cool object orientation? JavaFX gui definition looks simple, declarative. It almost looks, like JAVA guys looked into REBOL VID dialect, which is of course, not just static 🙂
Guys wanted to add some scripting, without admitting, that scripting is cool in itself, right? 🙂
The pity is, that Rebol Technologies did not have good marketing guy in the past, they would be rich already 🙂 Hopefully 700KB R3 will soon enough speak for itself, and show the world, that you don’t need MBs size of JAVA to do cool stuff, which, in the end, does just the same for you …
(PS: I know that I am kind of exagerrating, as surely JAVA itself contains many other usefull things REBOL is missing, I just could not help myself, because it seems to me, that computing world missed on simplicity in last 10 years, and guys are trying to fix it … without redesign, by adding another layer 🙂 I hope that scripting languages in general, are the future …
A day late and a dollar short. Well, years late actually. Adobe (originally Macromedia) has about a 3 year head start, has excellent dev tools (Eclipse plugin), that’s been shipping for over a year now.
Hell, even Microsoft is ahead of JavaFX with Silverlight.
