A new proof-of-concept application from Microsoft’s research arm integrates elements from the Windows OS and its Windows Azure cloud infrastructure to let users share files from their desktops with Web users via social networking. More information can be found at the project’s home page.
Interesting – I seem to remember another failed venture such as this on Windows 98 called “Active Desktop”. Not sure cloud computing or sharing your desktop with your closest friends can be considered good ideas, but it’s your data 🙂
It sounds like they are integrating Windows Live Messenger (MSN) into explorer, similar to the way they integrated IE into explorer back in the olden days. I think it may make it easier for non technical people to access Live messenger features like chat, image sharing, profile lookup, blogging, game playing, etc.
