“Down at the bottom of Bill Gates’ keynote to the Professional Developers Conference yesterday lies confirmation that the wheels have come off the Windows rollout wagon.” TheRegister reports. Windows Longhorn is scheduled for release in 2003, while Blackcomb, which will be the real .NET OS, is scheduled for sometime due to 2005. WindowsXP is not far away though, as the official retail release is due tomorrow.
So Eugenia, when do we see an interview with Bill Gates on OSNews?
Funny you ask, I was thinking about that today when… I was having shower (no, I don’t find today’s Gates sexy ).
Well, Bill is not an easy person to approach and he does not give many interviews anymore. He “restricts” himself to keynotes, conferences and really big magazines like ‘Fortune’.
I have the means to find his (real) email address, but I won’t get into the trouble of hunting him down.
Plus, I won’t be able to restrict myself from asking him “real” questions that could put him in a difficult situation and they will have to go through from Microsoft’s legal dpt first for approval. Haha..
And that reminds me… I sent two interviews to Be’s Steve Sakoman and Lee Williams, (Be Inc Director, Product Development and Delivery) back in April 2001 and December 2000 respectively, and they were both ‘ok’ for answering my (harsh and down to the point) questions (and all that in a period that BeOS users really were in neede of information from the ‘muted’ Be), but Be’s PR and legal dpt had another opinion. Both times. Huh!
I wasn’t serious, but perhaps you may be surprised. You could mention that CEOs of other commercial OSes have been willing to grant interviews
I too have legal people that like to advise me, but I do plenty of interviews and I’m active on other fronts – e.g. IPv6 & multihoming in the IETF mail lists.
The legal people give me a few broad hints as what not to comment about, and the rest is left to my discretion. We’ve been fairly safe so far since most media relations are done by myself anyway so there’s a low chance of us contradicting our media releases. The rest is just common sense and decency respecting the opinions of others.
Perhaps our openness gives us a certain advantage.
Re: BeOS interviews. How about trying for the big one, JLG himself

I know.

I don’t have the interest hunting Be people anymore. He wouldn’t be able to say anything anyway. I stopped trying with Be back in July.
Be like obtaining an interview with John Gotti. You have to take a blood oaf or something.
LongHorns? BlackCombs? Are those more words being wrecked in order for billy to get even more money?
Does anyone know if mr billmirror is going to do one of those http://www.opensourcenews.com>sweat routines today? That stuff is precious.
If you see any more billmirror face scan vdo clips, please do let us know. We’re hoping to collect the entire serIEs, then help with the capture, of the fugitive softwar gangsters.
XP was codenamed Whistler, now Blackcomb? Mr. Gates must like British Columbia.
