One million copies sold in 5 days, $20 million in sales. People have already sunk 5.2 million hours into the game, including 2.4 million hours in 4 million multiplayer games. Minecraft on the Xbox 360 is yet another massive success. Pretty amazing. Coincidentally, I’m kind of done with Minecraft single player (on the PC, that is). Anybody here running a decent survival multiplayer server with mods (levelling, economy, etc.)?
I don’t like this game too much, but my son and his friends do causing them to grab my wife’s and mine iOS devices to have a mini-LAN-Minecraft-party.
When he forces me to play I just go on a zombie killing rampage.
I had no doubt that the 360 version will be a smashing success – after all the Minecraft had become something of a cultural phenomenon. It’ll take a lot of bad moves on their part to undermine the credibility they’ve established.
Also, playing with the controller in 2- or 4-player splitscreen surely is a lot of fun.
We have a few mods (economy, teleport, tool repair) on our survival server, TROLOLOOL EDITED.
Check out the Aether Mod, if you want something fresh in single player. It’s a comprehensive mod that adds a sky world of floating islands, and pretty much everything up there is new. The first time you go to the Aether will feel like the first time you started a single player game. Just make sure you take enough stuff with you to build a sky bridge away from your portal… On more than one occasion, my Aether portal has come out floating in mid-air.
As for the 360 version, I am quite surprised it’s sold so many copies, given the drastic limitation it has: the world is finite, about the size of one map, 1024×1024 blocks. Possibly the most important thing about Minecraft is the infinite world! I can keep myself occupied for days by setting up a network of nether portals to get me two or three maps over at a time!
…and with updates coming – so kinda like with “original” Minecraft, it had large following while still very much work-in-progress.
Maybe that includes infinite world (though, for me, that’s just procedural “same old” ;p )
