ReactOS 0.2 RC1 has been released. The 0.2 release has the goal of booting into a functional Explorer.exe – replacing the default of a text command line interface. The final release should be on the 25th of January. The release features more additions and fixes than the ability to boot into explorer. For a complete listing, view the release changelog.
Nice to see ReactOS progress.
I’m dling it now…
…would be a very fine idea! Like Knoppix for Linux – you would be able to test ROS without installation.
For a preloaded BOCHS config use

And for the ISO try

In either case if you have Windows I suggest looking into useing MicroSoft’s VGA driver. In ReactOS 1.5 it made graphics much better. I’m about to boot 2.0 for the first time… I’ll report soon.
Do you also get this error when starting ReactOS from the supplied bochs img?
ReactOSsystem32driversBootVideo.sys not found
The error should read (replace the slashes with backslashes, you see what happened to my last post):
/ReactOS/system32/drivers/BootVideo.sys not found
My guess is there is , or at least at one time there was, a graphical start up screen. It must not be there now. Fortunantly, it does not prevent the system from running… I love the new ROS Explorer. Its finally got a usable GUI!
I have tried the new reactos on VMware 4.0. It doesn’t seem to be too stable. Has it been stable on bochs?
I have had no problems in bochs, but I have only used it for about 10 – 15 minutes so far. I’m about to load VMware and see how that works…
They are working now. If you had trouble earlier, I had a database problem… again. I fixed it so D/Ls should move right along.
What version of Wine does ReactOS use? Is it the current biuld? Also, when this project gets completed (near 1.0), will the goal still be NT4 compatibility, or will it also strive for compatibility for Windows 2k/XP/Longhorn/newer MS OS?
don’t know about the Wine version but the goal is NT4 compatibility and (much) later possibly NT5,NT5.1 (2000,XP)
OK, thanks. Just wanted an idea how this project is progressing.

This is bug of RC1 and most likely will be fixed (or at least applied the known workaround) in the release. The boot logo will be there.
> What version of Wine does ReactOS use?
Most of the Wine DLLs that are used were taken from current CVS. Look at http://cvs.reactos.com/cvsweb.cgi/~checkout~/reactos/doc/README.WIN…

Our goal is currently NT4 compatibility, but that doesn’t mean that NT5 technologies and drivers will not work. There is already some work on NT5 features like Plug & Play and more work will appear in future.
Booting into a Live CD-ROM requires two feature which are currently not fully implemented: Hardware independance (using Plug & Play) and Live/RAM disk driver. Some developers said that they will work on this, so you may expect a Live CD version in some ongoing version.
