How about posting a link to original site or better yet – to relnotes next time?
the press release just hit the wires, the site is not updated yet.
I hope they changed that ugly theme.
Theme change

I hope they changed that ugly theme.
I hope they just use the beautiful crystal theme for XFM and I also hope they have dropped mozilla for mozilla firefox and will offer a download of thunderbird 1.0! I can’t wait to order. This distro rocks!
KDE isn’t a theme, it’s a desktop environment. Get it straight dude!
rofl )) that’s a good one :]
on topic: will there be something like a tryout edition?
Where did you get this news release from? I don’t see any press release at xandros.com. Not in the forums.
I hope it’s a single CD. Too much redundant crap really makes installing Linux (and using it afterwards) a pain.
It’d be nice if Gnome replaced KDE (yes, I use Ubuntu and a kernel update would be nice (for all my USB devices).
changelog?
>Where did you get this news release from?
Where do you think from? From their PR department. All big tech sites are subscribed to PR wires.
If it is like the previous versions it’s on one CD. Except if you buy the Deluxe version; then you get an extra CD with goodies.
Ok. I thought they would have the press release on their press release webpage also then. (http://www.xandros.com/news/press_releases.html). Well… I hope they will post information on how to get it soon. I am a premium subscriber so I am kinda surprised the press get to know about the release before me 🙂
does’nt say anything on main site about xandros 3 being released! just about the beta in the forum
guys, this isn’t FOX NEWS… i’m sure Eugenia’s not just making this up.
Why doesn’t it say anything on the homepage??? Lol, jk, it is amazing how many people will ask the same question instead of just reading previous posts.
Haha..That was a good one 🙂
I don’t believe Eugenia is lying to us.. I asked only of curiosity.
I don’t think they can move to Gnome yet, not without removing a lot of functionality users have come to expect
its been posted on distrowatch as well

I can only find version 4.0 on codeweavers site. Is 4.1 going to be released soon?
Xandros probably got a special deal with them 🙂
On another note… The Xandros mainpage has now been updated. Shop has been updated too… So guess who is currently downloading it 🙂
You can already get it here: http://shop.xandros.com/index.php?cPath=21
I’m on my way to order the version 3 Deluxe Edition right now.
If you get it, how’s about a review when you check it out. I have purchased the first 2 editions and have not been that impressed with it. Slow, kernel not current, and you got to download their packages or you can “break it”. Anyways, lets have a good review before the excitement begins.

I think this .0 release will touch my burning device as well. xandros is a great one – rock stable, less fat, more muscles
I can only find version 4.0 on codeweavers site. Is 4.1 going to be released soon?
I was wondering the same thing. Anybody have a clue what’s new?
I purcahsed it before the homepage had it listed. Downloading it now too. Just hope their servers don’t get overwhelmed.
“Slow, kernel not current, and you got to download their packages or you can “break it”.”
That’s good practice with *any* distribution. Use vendor packages or build from source. I’m gonna get a t-shirt with that printed on it soon.
make a lame review and post pics like hell here on osnews, we`ll mangage since we get pictures 🙂
Eugenia. How do you receive press releases ?
I’m burning the discs of the Deluxe Edition now. I’ll manage to get a review up as soon as possible.
Just installed 3.0 on my Dell Latitude D800 with Cisco Airo 350 wireless PCMCIA.
After a 15 min installation time I see a clean and well designed OS.
Everything simply works!!
It took me 3 clicks to enable my wireless connection.
Again… no suprises. Very good job Xandros (and off course all beta testers)!
Marc
According to presales tech support at Xandros, version 3 does *not* run VMware. That’s all they said, no explanation. So, does that mean it will run with some manipulations (as in version 2.X), or is it “no way jack, ain’t gonna happen!” Of course, I’m talking about Xandros as the host running VMware.
As Eugenia mentioned above, via email. Most tech companies have a PR mailing list for news sites like this to subscribe to.
Just the fact that its based on Debian 3.1 makes me wanna drool at Xandros 3 …
I like to try the disto’s when they allow some sort of downloads. They are at least offering one.
I bought the Deluxe edition yesterday, foolishly believing the hype and looking for a distro that “just works”. Well, Xandros just doesn’t work.
It died a couple of minutes into the install. After the nVidia splash screen, I got a black screen with a cursor and nothing else. It sat like that for 15 minutes before I got fed up. I tried it two more times just to be sure, and it did the same thing.
My hardware is all very common. It’s an i865 based motherboard, and has two SATA drives and an MSI PATA DVD burner as the CD drive. The video card is a Visiontek made nVidia card and the sound card is an Audigy 2. Fedora, Ubuntu, Knoppix and Libranet all work perfectly on this hardware. So much for “just works”.
I sent an email to Xandros support and got a message back saying they would contact me in as little as five days. Maybe I have overly high expectations, but when I pay $90 for a distro that claims to have good support, I expect a quicker response than that. The free forums for free distros are much, much quicker.
I posted on the Xandros forums, but there are other people there with similar problems to mine that haven’t got an answer yet. If this were Fedora or Ubuntu, I’d have had six answers in ten minutes I’m sure.
So, I have to wonder, what exactly did I pay for? I wanted a polished distro that I wouldn’t have to pull my hair out to get configured, but it won’t even install on common hardware. I wanted fast, helpful support, but five-day waits certainly don’t meet that criterion.
I’m very disappointed in Xandros.
Actually, your dual SATA hard drives are really not that common yet and are probably the problem. I believe I remember something about this on the Xandros Forums regarding version 2.0. Try disconnecting one the SATA hard drives during the installation. This may work. Afterwards, simply connect the other drive. I believe it may be a problem of Xandros not knowing of which drive to boot from intially. Anyway, it’s worth a shot.
Thanks. I’ll give it a try and report back.
See what I mean about free public forums being better?
Well, that did the trick. Having two SATA drives is apparently what was making the installer choke. Thanks for your help.
I’m curious, is that really such a rare hardware configuration? I have two computers here both with two SATA drives, but maybe it’s just me. My mother has a similar arrangement, but I guess that doesn’t mean much seeing as I built that one too.
Any ideas why Xandros wouldn’t be able to handle such a set up, while every other single distro I’ve tried had no troubles?
Anyway, the install was fast and it looks pretty nice so far. I’ll post more when I’ve had more time to play.
Thanks again Dannie.
Is software raid available now during install, or did they still leave that one out? I am waiting to see before I even think about purchasing it. And no, your configuration is not rare in the least. It is very, very common these days (dual Raptors for me =). Thanks in advance.
I honesty can’t tell you about RAID setup during the install as I don’t use RAID. I have two separate drives, one data and one for the OS and programs because I like to switch distros every few months and don’t want to lose my data to a stupid mistake on my part.
There are posts on the Xandros forum, however, that indicate there are still problems with RAID. But your mileage may vary, I guess.
Accoring to the technical FAQs at Xandros:
“With a redundant array of independent disks (RAID) storage system, data is stored on multiple hard disks, which appear on the system as a single disk. RAID helps to protect data and improves performance.
Xandros Desktop OS does not currently install onto IDE / SATA RAID devices.”
The verison listed for this FAQ is “all”. Not sure if that includes 3.0 or not.
