Google has released a beta version of their desktop search tool which runs on Windows XP and 2000 SP3+. Details can be found here and more in depth reviews here and here. Its release is amid more concerns of privacy, many of which began when Google's Gmail system was introduced. Update: AOL wishes the same.

Novell Turns Up the Volume for Mono 2

"Novell has lifted the lid on enhancements integrated into the next major release of Mono, its development platform for enabling Microsoft .Net applications to run unchanged on Linux. My past writing about Linux has centered on general usability and sensible defaults, but his contention was that Linux is the Linux kernel and that anything beyond that is the responsibility of the distribution. As usual, Mandrake is making this release available first to club members and those who wish to purchase media, and following a few weeks later, a general release. Gnome Desktop Environment 2.8 was released today, on schedule. Including a slew of new features and the much anticipated Evolution 2.0, Gnome 2.8 achieves several milestones. Judge Says Lindows Name OK

News.com is carrying an article that seems to have gone by unnoticed. Macromedia is looking into releasing Linux versions of their development tools. This will immediately make Flash development accessible. Future products will enable Linux users to program using next generation Macromedia technologies such as MXML.
