SUSE Linux 10.0 has been developed with the same goals of stability and usability, the most current and comprehensive selection of open source packages. As you would expect, when you purchase SUSE Linux 10.0, you’ll receive more than 4000 software packages as well as a printed user manual, extensive online help resources and 90 days of free installation support.
I would personally think that it’s more responsible to wail until the torrents are up. But regardless of that here’s 3 european mirrors I found that has the cd isos:
ftp://sunsite.informatik.rwth-aachen.de/pub/Linux/suse/i386/10.0/i…
ftp://ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/…
ftp://gd.tuwien.ac.at/linux/suse/suse.com/i386/10.0/iso/
There’s probably a lot more servers that have it. But I didn’t bother to look any furter. There’s a list of SuSE mirrors here:
http://www.opensuse.org/Mirrors_Released_Version
For the people who prefer the DVD (like me).
ftp://mirror.colorado.edu/pub/suse/i386/10.0/iso/SUSE-10.0-EvalDVD…
Currently downloading @about 125 KB/sec (which is fast enough for me).

Yeah, sounds like a good idea! I found the DVD ISO on this switch server from Switzcherland:
ftp://mirror.switch.ch/mirror/suse/suse/i386/10.0/iso
But why do the always call their DVD isos something with “eval” ? I mean it sounds a bit like “evaluation copy”?
But why do the always call their DVD isos something with “eval” ? I mean it sounds a bit like “evaluation copy”?
Because it is meant as an ‘evaluation’ meaning you can try it, but without official support from SuSE, and no guarantees.
…are up too! A shame there’s no seeders, yet…
http://ftp.opensuse.org/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.0-OSS/
I just started up my BitTorrent client and it sees two seeds and 17 peers.
i received an error message in my client of bittorrent:
Error: Tracker Response Error:Requested download is not authorized for use with this tracker. in Tracker: http://tracker.opensuse.org:6969/announce
:'( see ya
I think the Eval-DVD is the DVD version of the 5 CD’s, which I really hope it is. It’s so much easier to download a DVD .iso to burn then having several CD’s to install from don’t you think? So that’s what I’m looking for from opensuse.org, so I know it’s been officially released, is a DVD iso of SUSE 10.0 to install from hopefully including GNOME 2.12.1.
P.S. Anyone know of any desktop environment that is very comparable to the Mac OS X GUI interface. I love the 10.4 Tiger menu at the bottom of the screen that is all scrolling icons when you move the mouse over to click on to open whatever instead of having any text there. Does Linux.BSD have anything like Mac’s whole desktop setup?
you might want to look in to some kind of customisation of KDE.
You might want to look into SuperKaramba. It has tons of cool little applets that integrate with your desktop…. some more functional than others. The are really similar to Dashboard, you sohuld like them.
there is ubuntu
suse bye bye, redhat/fedora bye bye
you was to greedy , and your users left you
now you havent got the testers and the bugs will follow you to the next release
As if Ubuntu were any better. I’ve tried dozens of distros and SuSE 9.3 was the only one that worked with my Dell Inspiron 6000 out of box with most of the features available.
Ubuntu was just one among dozens that I tried and rejected.
Agreed, i tried to put ubuntu on three computers, it
did not work, suse worked on all three fairly well.
ummm…you do realise that ubuntu is just a distribution of free software as is fedora and suse.
These bugs that you speak of, if they are fixed in ubuntu, then they will also be fixed in SUSE(unless ubuntu developers don’t send their patches upstream).
– Jesse McNelis
Agreed.
That Anonymous is a no clue “Look at me, I use Ubuntu! I’m a bored try-hard Linux user”…More like a complete newbie dumbass. No one cares for that distro…The topic is Suse.
Only a d*ckhead like this would delibrately incite conflict among the Linux distros. People like that Anonymous should be shot.
Back on topic.
Golden Master?
it is a question of personal preferences… and i would prefer almost every other distro over ubuntu. no offense meant, but i don’t see what all the fuss is about ubuntu. it is just another distribution.
but i don’t see what all the fuss is about ubuntu. it is just another distribution.
The fuss about ubuntu is that you can recieve official CD’s for free, and much works out-of-the-box.
However, much distro’s are available for free (so why need official free CD’s), and when comparing Ubuntu to SuSE I definitaly prefer SuSE, because is is simply more and easier configurable than Ubuntu.
YaST is the ultimate linux configuration tool .
Better wait for the official announcement in 2 hours when the servers are stuffed with everything that will be released (including net installation, DVD, …) and first mirrors are available. And never link directly to a server for download!
Where’s version 10 on the Mirrors? I see version 10RC and Version 10. Alpha but not plain version 10. Am I missing somthing?

Version 10 is released today. Meaning that 10.0 is places on the (open)SuSE FTP server. the mirrors you are looking at, probably haven’t synchronised yet.
d/l’ing the x86_64 DVD.iso version.
and have SUSE 10.0 on pre-order from amazon.
It shipped from Novell so I think Amazon should be able to get it out soon.
No powerpc version ? Only for intel/amd cpu ?
There is a ppc version, but only with open source components:
http://www.opensuse.org/Released_Version#ppc
Thanks, I will dig this.
Its written GM.. i dont know what it is,,
moreover there is not announcement nor any information related about the release in the opensuse site?
clarify.. bye
Maybe GM is from Golden Master…
nah. That would be too obvious.
Is that the last test version just before release of the official?
wikipedia:
A golden master is a single copy of a reproducible product (e.g., software recorded on a medium such as CD-ROM, and usually a final version of that product) that is created for the purpose of duplication, typically for subsequent distribution of multiple copies.
Thanks nimble.
This page should answer quite a few questions:

If you don’t know what stuff means, read the readme, what an idea

What’s the difference between iso’s from opensuse.org (SUSE-10.0-CD-OSS-i386-GM-CD*.iso) and http://ftp.suse.com (SUSE-10.0-CD-i386-GM-CD*.iso)? OSS version is a little bit smaller, but what about it’s content?
I believe the OSS version has programs such as Acrobat and RealPlayer removed, since they’re not open-sourced.
why there isn’t a professional verion of suse 10 like suse 9.3 pro. so whats the difference between bought version and free version suse 10 GM(gloden master)we are getting from the FTPs
GM version is a professional version ??
The difference is that the retail version will have applications with it that are not opensourced where as the versions you download will be all opensource software
there are three versions:
1) commercial –
> OSS core
> licensed apps
> commercial apps *
2) eval –
> OSS core
> licensed apps
3) OSS –
> OSS core
* i realise my terminology may not be perfect here
the eval version is an unrestricted version available for free download, and thus the preffered d/l version unless you are a OSS purist who can live without Acrobat, Flash, JAVA etc.
That was short, to the point and very clear.
Thank you.
came as a surprise to me too when i found out this morning.
Amazing the difference with earlier releases, although i still like 9.3,more polished and styled.
I’m really pleased with what i see about SuSE 10 on diverse websites. For instance Novell has included AppArmor lite which is far more easily to manage than for example SELinux and has GUI wizzards via the good old and handy YAST.This saves a lot of time getting a solid extra protection on the road:
http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/16095.html
I can’t help it but i’m going to get me a box next tuesday.
i see that the eval version has licensed and oss software but the proffesional version also has commercial software, can any one give me some examples of what sort of commercial software these are?
on the suse official website

SUSE Linux 10.0 Eval version
Alternatively, download the Eval DVD ISO image. It includes an installable evaluation version that can be later upgraded to the complete product.
these is no more info. about this eval version and i dont understand how later it can be upgraded to the complete version ? so its mean the version SUSE Linux 10.0 Golden Master eval from the provided FTP i’ve downloaded is a time limited i need to activate to upgrade or what i’ve to do ?
See if this helps:
