When it comes time for you to buy toys for all the good little boys and girls on your shopping list, don’t forget OSNews’ price comparison engine. It will help you find the best price on electronics and computer stuff, even factoring in shipping charges. There’s even a new feature that allows you to search for mail-in rebate information. If you’ve never used the price comparison engine before, give it a try, and let us know what you think.
… that`ll be the US only comparison engine.
If any company in Europe or Asia does a similar service to the one that Pricegrabber offers, I’d like to know about it, so we can offer a similar service to our non-US readers.
While I do like the review feature of Price Grabber, I almost always can find a better price via PriceWatch (and if I need reviews before I buy, I can get those at epinions.com).
For instance, I just did a quick scan, and within the same number of clicks, I immediately found 512MB’s of PC133 Ram at roughly half the price of Price Grabbers, at Pricewatch.com.
(I know this isn’t illustrative of the entire PriceGrabber site, but for a quick “search and retrieve” Pricewatch seems to be the quicker solution IMO).
Also, Pricegrabbers thumbnails are nice, but I’d prefer they link to a full sized image of the device. It’s kind of hard knowing what you’re getting when you’re viewing a tiny thumbnail on a hi-res display.
I could go on (The Flash ad on their front page slows most PC’s down to a crawl, for instance), but won’t -I’m sure that there’s already a Pricegrabber fan launching into a rebuttal.
While I see PriceGrabber referenced on quite a few sites lately, I know of no one who buys from them -In fact a friend and I went to a local PC show last weekend, and he found a motherboard and AMD CPU for over $100 cheaper than what he was prepared to pay to a vendor he’d found via PriceGrabber (And that was local prices -Not mailorder).
I’d prefer to see a better hardware resource advertised on OSNews, but I’m sure you guys get some commission for sales made through your link, whereas I don’t believe Price Watch offers such a fee.
Ah well. My two bits…
Happy Holidays to all though. 8)=
