“In this letter you will find the result of a brief security audit that we did some time ago for HP-UX platform. We have found 8 vulnerabilities (seven local and a remote one). Technical details about all of the vulnerabilities were sent to the HP security team few months ago and in all cases appropriate security patches are available. Some of them are available for download right now, the remaining ones will be published in the near future.” Read the security update here.
This article states that these vulnerabilities exist in HP-UX 10.20. Considering HP has scheduled 10.20 to be end-of-lifed this month, I don’t really see this as a cause for concern. There haven’t even been patches issued for it since December 2002. Anybody who’s still using 10.20 shouldn’t be.
Do any of these vulnerabilities apply to 11.00 or 11i? And are there patches available? Not much information available here.
I’m still using v.10.20, since HP AFAIK hasn’t got a hobbyist program like DEC or SUN. Don’t think I can afford to get a proper licence.
Or is there a way to get hold of v.11 without paying the market price?
HP Used to have a program under which you could request a free copy of 11i, they would send you actuall CD-Rs. I believe that every machine at somepoint had an implicit licence for HP-sUX so you just had to request HP for media. However I do not see the link at HPs support no’ mo’. Also make sure that you have the right system for 11, the old 9000’s are no longer supported. Also if you have access to the media, you can get free license paks from HPs site.
And there is always the pa-linux option .
BTW. 10.20 was a mid 90s OS!!! Jeez, is that supposed to be news now?
Granted, the HPs are slowly being replaed by Suns and whatnot, but there are still plenty of them out there.
