In this interesting interview, Hyperion Entertainment gives their views upon the currently troubled Linux games market. Ben Hermans also recently attended a Dutch Amiga show as one of the AmigaOne partners. Hyperion has acquired many game licenses for various alternative computer platforms, including Majesty and Soldier of Fortune.
Hyperion Entertainment has some very talented programmers within their ranks. These people truly are the 3D experts to talk to regarding 3D support in upcoming Amiga desktop systems and other Amiga enabled devices.
They write alot of new technologies theirselves to enable them to even port software heavily tied to DirectX to new Amiga Desktop Systems. They are also porting the Raytracer Realsoft 3D to PPC, this title was very popular witin the Amiga market when the Amiga still was the leading player within this field.
They have already ported Heretic2 which uses the Quake2 engine to PPC Amiga platform. Other games using this engine can be ported relative easily now. They have already announced an Amiga version of SiN which uses this engine as well. Shogo which was also recently released for the Amiga platform uses Monolith’s LithTechTM 3D engine and will open up the possibility to easily port alot more 3D games. Their next port will be an Amiga version of Descent: Freespace (both for 68k and PPC). Other games already announced by Hyperion are games including Alien Nations, Worms: Armageddon and Europa Universalis.
