Partition Logic is a standalone graphical partitioning tool that boots from a single floppy disk or CD, intended to become a free-software alternative to certain well-known proprietary offerings. the lack of SCSI support kills it for me, though. I only have one system with non-SCSI disks (and seven that use SCSI).

If you need hard dive partitioning tools, take a look at the software on the various Linux-Based rescue CD’s and Floppy disks. They’ll pretty much work with any harddrive and OS you could throw at them.

Not IMO. They need to give their fonts and widgets a good workover.

Can it resize ntfs partitions?
except maybe ntfs. systemrescuecd: http://www.sysresccd.org/ have a problem when it trys to mirror/ghost ntfs partition…

personally i mostly use ranisch, (c)fdisk and pcopy, and the ntfs tools of course – no need for gui slowness. but some people do. a replacement for ghost would be great. can is compress disk images?

It’s a good thing that when Linux and Ranish were in earlier stages of development, Linus and the others didn’t get discouraged by chimps like you. I suppose in 1995 you would’ve been saying, “Linux is a joke, we already have Windows 3.1”

Possibly a false positive? Could be a file with a siilar hash perhaps.
I downloaded it and checked with AVG and it found nothing

It is a good start but, it is also very very lacking. No resize support and no SCSI support make it useless in comparison to the tools they say it competes with.
A much better option would be a http://www.knoppix.com Knoppix CD which contains excellent tools like http://qtparted.sourceforge.net/screenshots.en.html QTParted. QTParted is a graphical frontend to the parted command which is a fully functional partition editor. It can format, resize and move numerous file systems on all sorts of different disks including SCSI and RAID arrays.
For disk duplication, a.k.a. Ghosting, there is http://www.partimage.org/screenshots.en.html Partimage. Though less graphically pleasing than QTParted, it is a powerful and effective disk imaging tool.
I really just bought Parition Magic on CD for about AUD$80. Got a nice little book with it that I didn’t need. Boot it off the CD and it works fine.
a fresh install with a relatively ‘simple’ NTFS structure can be imaged by partimage but good luck imaging an aged volume.
I speak from experience.. it’s a pain. the ntfs tools can help fix things but i never was able to successfully use it.

Ghost works, from what i’ve seen (I used older versions), but I never investigated these new versions as I’d have to buy it first..
so, dont count on anything NTFS from partimage. the documentation itself says it’s beta. unless that’s changed?
It found half a dozen of errors on my master HD which none of my (many) partitioning tools can see, not even the very fussy Partition Magic.
My slave HD has PC-BSD on the second partition, that is seen as an error by many tools.
If you need a free partioner, why not use CD1 of any recent Mandrake/driva release?

This is not a dig at the developer. But it is a dig at the people reviewing/suggesting it.
Right, Partimage has its own, unsafe, incomplete NTFS code and unfortunately nothing is used from the stable Linux-NTFS project code.
However ntfsclone from the ntfsprogs package can do the job reliably since beginning of 2003. One of my primary reasons to write it was to provide users the fastest and most reliable NTFS backup/restore tool previous to implement full data relocation support for NTFS resizing around at the end of 2003.
