The Free and Open Source Software Developers’ Meeting is this weekend in Brussels, and they’re published several more interviews with event contributors: Harald
Welte about netfilter/iptables, Solar Designer about Openwall GNU/*/Linux, Yoann Vandoorselaere about Prelude IDS, Thomas Vander Stichele about GStreamer, and Damien Sandras about GnomeMeeting.
I bet this meeting in Brussels sprouts some good discussion.
[silence except for cricket noises]
What do you mean? There were more than 1600 visitors last year you know, all developers.
Brussels … sprouts – vertaling : Brusselse spruitjes, wat onze engelstalige vrienden spruitjes noemen.
Ow, yeah, fosdem is definetly great ๐ I went last year, and I will go this weekend
Hehehe… What’s funny about that pun is that the best thing this American (me) can come up with to go with Brussels is “sprouts”.
Seriously, this meeting looks *very* interesting if the interviews with the speakers is any indication. I’d love to hear Harald’s and “Solar’s” talks — should be lots of good Linux networking goodies (personally interesting subject).
Besides, those waffles should be tasty too, no?
๐
I think the average american doesn’t know much about Belgium besides belgian waffles, brussels sprouts, and maybe Jean Claude Van Damme. (shudder). They need to work on their PR. ๐
not Van Damme! (I share your shudder)
Well, Brussels can be quite nice (I live here). It’s a city that is very weird, and a lot of its beauty is hidden. But nevertheless there is alot of it. Additionaly the food is bloody great (there’s lots more than just sprouts, waffles, chocolate or fries), and people like to enjoy it. I guess it makes up a bit for the absolutely horrible weather. Aside from Brussels, Gent (another Belgian city) rules big time too.
Obviously I’m going to Fosdem, last year it was great – unlike some other gatherings I’ve been to, like LinuxTag in Germany it’s not in the least bit business-focused, but almost completely developer focused. Lots of interesting people.
I don’t know about americans, but this british bloke here doesn’t know any more than that about belgium too!
Except that brussels is a great city to visit for a long weekend. Nice place.
Looks like an interesting conference, I wish I was going now, jump on the eurostar, be there in no time.
…don’t forget the Belgian beer – I remember the first time I drank Duvel…
My brother lived there for a couple of years – he said it was way nicer than living back in the UK.
(On topic) – seems like there is an interesting list of speakers (especially Julian Smart of wxWindows – superb stuff). I would like to go myself, but I have no cash atmo!
… yeah the beer is of course very famous…
We’re going to present Fresco on the “open” sessions – see the schedule on fosdem.org – to explain the architecture and the “interesting” issues we have to deal with in developing it.
Since Fresco isn’t even close to being interesting for users at this point, this should be mostly focused at developers.
Hope to see some of you there sundayafternoon.
