According to Intel, users expect the same functionality from applications running on their mobile devices whether they are offline or connected to a network.

does anyone think internet accessibility will ever
reach full saturation in the next 5-10 years, in that i mean, wherever you go you have broadband internet access?
think planes, subways, mountains, etc.
So far the real uses for wireless data… are…
Japan – finding a mate
Japan – porn (they have a working system wireless system)
USA – nothing (they do not have a working wireless data system)
USA – GPS-based population monitoring
USA – coming soon… RFID-based population monitoring
Europe – ????? (they sort of have working wireless data)
Just maybe Wi-Max will solve the proverbial “last mile problem”… a made up problem that is used to justify unfair telecom rates. Not to mention the fully bogus definition of “broadband” that is used in the USA.
So far wireless looks like a technology whose main use is to pump up the share price of various large corporations.
Personally, I do not feel we will ever reach a point of pervasive wireless access. The increasing number of WiFi hotspots and technologies like WiMax (802.16) provide users with more opportunities for connections, but the World is a big place (just ask the cellular industry if you don’t believe me). Even if we concede that access in urban areas may at one time be available everywhere, no one would argue there will not be challenges. Interference, dead spots, network transitions, not to mention a repairman in a basement trying to place an order for a new heater on his TabletPC, are a few challenges that come to mind. To address these challenges and efficiently support mobile and stationary users, applications must be enhanced or even completely rearchitected.
