Hardware, Embedded Systems El Reg has reviewed the Shuttle x100. "The Shuttle X100 is an unusual Windows PC that stands out thanks to its tiny size and stylish looks. It thoroughly deserves to reclaim the many receptionists' desks that are currently occupied by iMacs across the nation and it's ideal for duties in your living room where a noisy beige tower simply won't be tolerated."

I would like though to replace that ATI with a nVidia card. I just feel that I will have less problems like that.

Much nicer than those horrid looking little cubes Shuttle usually makes.

It is twice as much as a Mac mini. The Aopen is also more expensive than the mini with the same (more or less) specs. Nice looking little machine tho' and it sounds like it has a full size hard drive in it, which is a bonus and likely better graphics.

And to bsharitt, I LIKE those cube-like shuttles. ;) I think they are pretty cool actually and have been ogling them for some time... but I don't *need* one so I can't justify it. ;)

I have an older Shuttle that has served me well for about four years now, and would like something newer and perhaps a bit smaller. This one looks fine, but damn it's expensive. 1600€ for something that's just about half decent (I need no screen) and perhaps will run at 1920x1200. For that price I can even get a decent Mac... ;)

You pay for the size. The article states there are a lot of bespoke connectors and whatnot in there. That doesn't come cheap.

Me? I can't afford one, so I'll have to live without a media centre PC or tolerate a noisy beige box in my living room.

I just checked the Configurator at shuttle.com. With Core 2 Duo, better Graphics and a large 3,5" HD, this would be the Mac Mini of my Dreams.

"... an unusual Windows PC"

I have, over the last three years, purchased 5 Shuttle XPCs for data collection in our lab. They all have, and continue, to run Linux - in fact, they never even had Windows on them.

Whatever... I guess I get a twinge of annoyance whenever any generic x86 box is referred to as a "Windows PC".

What's Windows got to do with it...?

It isn't sold as a barebone unit for now. So, you have the option of buying Windows, Windows, or Windows (Home, Professional, or Media Center). That's what Windows has to do with it.

Hey I think we should call the new Macs "Windows PCs" too now if you follow that thought since they are damn close to being "generic" in my opinion. That will annoy certain people reading this haha - yes you.

And you can't buy them without Windows either? Apple is a strange company...

A couple of replacement fans and you might be able to bring the beige box to tolerable levels and it would be much cheaper than a media center PC.

Just lacks a TV tuner, but at this size it's understandable.

I'd love to see some of the "but it's overpriced" posts here like we always see when a piece of Apple HW is reviewed ..
