Linuxwatch.com is running a great story called "Five Reasons NOT To Use Linux." It includes a nice list of reasons why one might want to steer clear of Linux, along with a nice comparison to how easily these reasons are addressed in Microsoft Windows.

In Virginia, patrons waiting in line to buy county school surplus iBooks for $50 started a riot when the doors opened, with an old man getting trampled, people crushing a baby stroller, and someone trying to run people down with his car. One iBook hopeful admitted that he used his folding chair as a weapon to fight off people who were trying to cut in line. Take a lesson from Steve Jobs, Henrico County: make them a little more expensive, and prevent the bloodshed. (Editor's note for the humor-impaired: no, I don't really think Macs are too expensive. I'm making fun of people who do)

Readers of The Reg have found disturbing evidence that Apple's HQ in Cupertino might soon disappear from the face of the earth. They also found strong evidence that London will vanish too, while the Twin Towers are supposed to reappear shortly.

One of the more whimsical case mods I've seen: A mini ITX-based PC carefully constructed inside a retail box for Windows XP. And at the end, the creator decides that he'd like to run Red Hat Linux on this machine too, so he tries to find a Linux box that fits over his new case. Unfortunately, Windows XP and Linux are not very compatible. The Red Hat Linux boxes he found were either a little smaller or a bit larger than his WinXP wonder.

Business 2.0 has compiled a list of shameful shenanigans from last year that should give you a chuckle. Test your tech savvy. Do you remember: the iLoo, the Segway hype, the swastika font, Shift key "hacking" (and a weak attempt at using the DMCA to prevent Shift key use)?

On Microsoft's Protect Your PC page, there are some graphical representations of firewalls and virus protection, and the icon that they're using to represent external threats is a familiar-looking curly-cue that Debian GNU/Linux fans might recognize. Coincidence?

SCO has announced a controversial new plan to fight intellectual property misappropriation. It's going beyond the distributors, beyond the end users, to the next generation. In other SCO news, the company is planning on attacking the GPL directly.

Some of you might be thinking, why? Well, I think it's about time. MCSE's, VB Programmers, and techies have been using Windows for years, and I think it's about time Windows moves to the desktop for ordinary people.
