Not so long ago Richard Dale announced Korundum, a RAD environment for KDE. And we should not forgetting Kommander and the official Qt Designer. It seems that KDE/Qt have more than enough RAD tools around. Now another KDE developer has announced Rubydiam, his efforts to bring JIT optimization to Ruby. The results could well be a competing runtime for Free Software development.

After a month of the KDE 3.3 release, userinstinct has put together a usability study with user testing.

With KDE 3.2 reaching a status of stable and mature, a lot of work has been going into the next and final release of the 3.x series, 3.3. Because 3.3 recently hit beta status, NewsForge caught up with KDE developer George Staikos to talk about all things KDE.

For the third interview in the DOT's series previewing aKademy they approached Waldo Bastian, whose most recent major project has been the Kiosk framework. They talked to him about Kiosk, the new Kiosk Admin Tool, Linux on the corporate desktop and what we can expect from his talk at aKademy.

Continuing the series of articles previewing KDE's World Summit, aKademy (running from August 21st to 29th), Tom Chance interviewed Matthias Ettrich, the founder of the KDE project, the creator of the LyX document-processor, and an employee of Trolltech. At aKademy he will be talking about how to design intelligent, Qt-style APIs. He discusses about his thoughts about the status of the KDE project, its achievements, and what he is looking forward to in aKademy.

The KDE Project announced the immediate availability of KDE 3.3 Beta 2. The focus of this release, code-named Kollege, is to fix bugs in the run-up to aKademy in late August. More here and here.

This is not a typical review of a desktop environment such as KDE or GNOME. These are my observations when I updated from KDE 3.2.3 to KDE 3.3 Beta1.

The KOffice team is brings you the second bugfix package that builds upon the successful 1.3 version.

The KDE Project is pleased to announce the immediate availability of KDE 3.3 Beta 1. As another step towards the aKademy in late August, this release is named Klassroom.

A Task Force Team of KDE and Knoppix hackers and enthusiasts created "just in time" for LinuxTag 2004 two programs which harvested an overwhelming response from visitors: FreeNX Server and kNX Client. Although not yet officially released, several presentations showed a well working preview of the KDE version for the speed boosting NX Terminal Server technology.
