Mandrake Silently Releases 10.2rc1 for PPC
Mandrakesoft have released the first release candidate of 10.2 for PPC. As with the 10.1 version, 10.2 is created by the community. There is no information on the website yet but the ISO files are available on mirrors. Also, although available since last weekend, the first release candidate of Mandrakelinux 10.2 was finally announced on Mandrakeclub.

First public beta of Mandrake Linux 10.2 Beta 1 (x86-64). KDE 3.3.2 packages are built with -fvisibility=hidden -fvisibility-inlines-hidden. This reduces code size and also improves performance of the runtime. A major new feature of Mandrakelinux 10.2 for x86-64 is that you can install a great amount of 32-bit development packages alongside with 64-bit equivalents, without any conflict. NDISwrapper 1.0 now includes support for x86-64.
Mandraketiva? Mandrakesoft Acquires Conectiva
According to this press release, European Linux developer Mandrakesoft has acquired the Brazilian Conectiva. Says the release, "This acquisition is expected to increase significantly Mandrakesoft's size and R&D capabilities."

Mandrake Linux 10.2 Beta 2 Released
The second beta release of Mandrake Linux is now available for download: there are cosmetic improvements in MCC and a new ALSA with source mixing (at last). Other distros would need to get the CVS version of ALSA to get dmix working automatically with the ALSA drivers.

Mandrakelinux 10.2 Beta is available and it includes Linux kernel 2.6.10, Glibc 2.3.4 and gcc 3.4.3, new KDE 3.3.2 is compiled with the '-fvisibility=hidden' option of gcc to accelerate the linkage step at the program start, Gnome 2.8.1, as well as GTK 2.6.1. New features during the installation procedure, including a new package-processing algorithm. Installation may boot from a USB key. Mozilla-firefox replaces Mozilla, Gimp 2.2, cdrecord 2.01.01a21 with DVD+R Dual Layers support, OpenOffice.org 1.1.4, Postgresql 8.0, MySQL 4.1.9.
Mandrake Targeting US Linux Market
The United States market for Linux support got more crowded Tuesday after French Linux vendor Mandrakesoft announced a partner program and a new line of Linux servers for the SMB (small to medium business) market in the U.S.
