Beginning in July 2004, Lycoris Desktop/LX will be bundled with CodeWeavers CrossOver Office in a new product called Lycoris PowerPak, the company announced earlier today.

There already exists a good deal of reviews of Mandrake 10 already. Instead of doing the typical review, I'm going to do things a bit differently. You see, there are a few things my OS needs to do perfectly, to warrant it a chance to stay on my PC longer than an hour or so. If any one of these necesseties fail, I may end up not liking the OS altogether. My OS needs to support good hardware acceleration, it must be able to play MP3's, I absolutely need Zsnes, and it has to be fast and stable.

I have been using Linux since 1993. I installed the first version of Slackware on a 16MB 386sx-25. Since then I have been using it almost exclusively on one or more of my PCs. So I consider myself as a bit of an expert. I have been using computers since 1982 mostly PCs, but also VAX mainframes and SPARC systems. Operating systems (and GUIs) I have been using include CP/M, DOS, Windows from Version 2 to XP, Geos, Beos, SCO Unix, Solaris, OS/2 and quite a few Linux Distros.

Desktop/LX 1.4 (formerly known as Update 4) is coming in July. It features an updated desktop powered by KDE 3.2.2 and its newer kernel supports even more hardware.

MandrakeSoft released the Mandrakelinux 10.0 Official version through BitTorrent.

MandrakeSoft recently emerged from the bankruptcy protection it sought last year. To find out what happened and why MandrakeSoft is enjoying success, Joe Bolin caught up with MandrakeSoft CEO François Bancilhon, and Mandrakelinux co-founders Jacques Le Marois and Gaël Duval.

The first release candidate of Mandrakelinux 10.0 for AMD64 (Athlon & Opteron) is now available. Several bugfixes and a few new applications have been added. DistroWatch has the details.

Mandrake Linux 10.0 is now available to club members and in packaged sets. According to the press release, "Mandrakelinux 10.0 Official offers the most advanced Linux features currently available. 10.0 Official provides increased performance with Linux kernel 2.6, an enhanced desktop experience with KDE 3.2, GNOME 2.4 and Mandrakegalaxy II, unbeatable hardware recognition, and support for Serial ATA, USB2 and IEEE 1394." The Mandrakelinux 10.0 Official FTP tree will be released this week, and public ISO images will be released later.

This is the second beta release of Mandrakelinux 10.0 for AMD64, DistroWatch reports along with more info on the release and direct links for the 3 CDs.

Mandrakesoft proved to judges in the Parisian version of the Chapter 11 bankruptcy court earlier this week it had a viable business plan and exit strategy. Now all that remains is for the popular Linux distributor to follow through on its promise.

"Sandwiched between these two significant business events, MandrakeSoft released Mandrakelinux 10.0 Community, an early-adopter's release of Mandrakelinux 10.0 Official, due out in May. Distrowatch reports on the first Beta release of Mandrakelinux 10.0 for AMD64 (Athlon & Opteron). In addition to Mandrakelinux 10.0 common features, it provides improved support for Serial ATA support, and an experimental support for 32-bit GL acceleration.

I have completely skipped Mandrake Linux 9.2 because previous versions of Mandrake Linux were not exactly that "glamorous". However, I wanted to try out the new Linux kernel 2.6.x on my new Linare PC and so I decided to give Mandrake 10.0 Community Edition a spin. Here are some quick thoughts on it on how MandrakeSoft has earned back my trust with this release. Update: MadPenguin reviews it too. UPDATE 2: More bugs, more bugs. I have changed the rating of the software because as much as I keep using it, I find more and more and more bugs all over the place. MandrakeSoft should REALLY sit down and think hard about their QA department (I have already emailed them about it).
