Even with increased popularity, the Firefox Web browser won't face as many security problems as Internet Explorer, according to the president of the Mozilla Foundation. She also replies to Slashdot questions. And now, Mozilla Firefox market share exceeds 6%.

Mozilla 1.7.6 was released and Thunderbird-1.0.2 was too, with security updates.

Following up on our earlier mention that the Mozilla foundation was discussing the discontinuation of the Mozilla suite, they announced today that development of the project (code-name: Seamonkey) will be taken up by a community group that is being formed to pick up the baton.

OneStat today reported that Mozilla's browsers have a total global usage share of 8.45%. The total usage share of Mozilla increased more than 1 percent since Novermber 2004. Microsoft's Internet Explorer still dominates the global browser market with a global usage share of 87,28% which is 1.62% less as at the end of November 2004. Please note that OneStat seems to measure Mozilla's and Firefox's usage as one browser (however it differentiates Netscape and other Gecko browsers).

Firefox 1.0.1 is a security update for the 27 million users who have already downloaded the free browser. The Mozilla Foundation encourages all users to download the update.
