The GNOME Journal, January Edition
The latest issue of The GNOME Journal has just been published. This second issue covers some technical articles, including CD/DVD creation, connecting to remote resources, and how to get help from the GNOME community. Also, will GNOME pass the Liberal Arts major test? Developer topic s are also covered, as Seth Nickell takes a look at the "Experimental Culture" surrounding GNOME development and Christian Hammond sheds light on the concept of desktop presence.

GnomeMeeting 1.2 Released
GnomeMeeting, the VoIP and IP telephony application for Linux systems, just released version 1.2. It will be the last release to support only H.323, as next release will also support SIP. The new version sports integration with Novell Evolution 2.00, PC-To-Phone calls with no additional hardware and free codecs, and Rendez-Vous support. See http://www.gnomemeeting.org for more info.

GNOME 2.9.2 Development Release Available
In this GNOME 2.9.2 development release is the new 'gnome-menus' module, which you will need. It is a new XDG spec compliant menu system.

GNOME 2.10 Needs You!
With GNOME 2.8 out the door, work on the next version, 2.10, is progressing nicely. There is some new and exciting software, and it's looking to be pretty sweet. There are still many things to be done, though, and if you want to help, there's a pretty good list with things just waiting to be done by you. Maybe even more important are the Nautilus bugs (over 1300 of them) and so its project leader is asking the community to get to work and fix as many as they can.
Gnome 2.8 Released
Gnome Desktop Environment 2.8 was released today, on schedule. Including a slew of new features and the much anticipated Evolution 2.0, Gnome 2.8 achieves several milestones. A review of Gnoppix Linux 0.8 livecd and the GNOME desktop
This review started because I was curious about GNOME as a desktop. I wanted a live cd with GNOME so I went over to Distrowatch and found Gnoppix. ELQ's note: I have sent the Gnoppix author a proposal on how to enrich the live CD experience with more relevant, third party desktop gnome apps, but don't expect any changes before November, as the author will be busy until that time.

GnomeFiles Achieves 1.0, Officially
One and a half months after its original beta launch, GnomeFiles, our GTK+ software repository, is now proclaimed v1.0. There are a few things still to do on the Developer's section (e.g. let devs upload application icons directly to our server), but the user's front-end is now feature complete.
