Internet & Networking During the 1970s, the Palo Alto Research Center was the hotspot for computer technology, with various important technological advances in computing coming from these Xerox labs. One of those advances was a humble cable and associated protocols: ethernet was born. El Reg interviewed one of the inventors and the driving force behind ethernet, Bob Metcalfe.

Bob Metcalfe is one great individual. He hosts an event every year in the fall here on the coast of Maine called Pop Tech. I believe he only recently got DSL at his home (recent being a couple years) since living in rural Maine, and its 50 year old copper phone wires, can be a bit of a problem.
