The third beta of SUSE 10.0 has been released. The most important highlight is the PPC version, which is now also available. Furthermore, a lot of bugs have been fixed too.

SUSE Linux 10.0 Beta 2 has been released. Changes since beta 1 include: OpenOffice.org is part of the distribution again (the Sun Java dependency is optional now), XEN3 support got added, Gnome was updated to 2.12 beta 2, Hotplug changed heavily, and KDE received work on multimedia system and the media handling. Novell will be launching a community-based Linux distribution, OpenSuSE, at next week's LinuxWorld in San Francisco, according to sources close to the company. Following in the footsteps of Red Hat Inc. with its successful Fedora Project Linux distribution, Novell Inc. will be opening up its Linux development efforts with OpenSuSE, sources said.

Fujitsu will begin offering Novell's Suse Linux Enterprise Server software and support services for Fujitsu PrimeQuest and Primergy servers worldwide later this year, it said Friday.

SuSE 9.3 is the most polished and easy to use release from SuSE. It goes a long way in dispelling the notion that Linux is not ready for the desktop. It is a comprehensive release with enhanced hardware detection and configuration and an exhaustive suite of available applications.

For the past several weeks, I've been running my home office LAN exclusively on SUSE 9.3 Professional. I found this latest version, released in March, to be an excellent implementation of the Linux operating system. It brings Linux's levels of ease of use and configurability to an all-time high.

Some nine weeks after the official release of SUSE LINUX 9.3, an installable DVD image of the product has been released to SUSE's download mirrors, reports Distrowatch.
