SuSE Linux Professional 9.3 Review; FTP install available

Novell's SuSE Linux Professional 9.3 is a solid, comprehensive Linux distribution that provides access to the latest technologies the open-source software world has to offer—with a level of polish that's superior to most other general-purpose distributions. SuSE Linux Professional 9.3 fits well as a desktop or notebook distribution, particularly for developers and system administrators new to Linux, says eWeek. Also, this does seem to be the boot ISO for the FTP install.

Howto: The Perfect Setup – SUSE 9.2

I have written a detailed description about the steps to be taken to setup a SUSE 9.2 based server that offers all services needed by ISPs and hosters (web server (SSL-capable), mail server (with SMTP-AUTH and TLS!), DNS server, FTP server, MySQL server, POP3/IMAP, Quota, Firewall, etc.). In addition to that I will show how to use Debian's package manager apt on an rpm-based system because it takes care of package dependencies automagically which can save a lot of trouble.

First Look at SUSE LINUX 9.3 Professional

"SUSE 9.3 has the potential to be a serious contender on the desktop, but sadly I cannot recommend this release to anyone looking for a well-balanced desktop Linux system. While they score points for making use of the latest and greatest desktop environments, new peripheral technology, and usability enhancements, the way they've crippled the multimedia functionality of this one-time world class distro is hard to ignore." IBM and Novell Launch ISV Program

Novell and IBM are launching a program "designed to accelerate the development and certification of ISV applications for SuSE Linux on the IBM eServer and middleware platforms." "As part of this initiative, Novell Inc. will provide those ISVs interested in the program with copies of SuSE Linux Enterprise Server and supporting documentation. The company will also facilitate onsite registration for Novell's Technology Partner Program to help ISVs certify their applications on SuSE Linux for both IBM hardware and middleware. "

Review: SUSE Linux 9.2 Professional

On October 22, 2004, Novell released SUSE Linux Professional 9.2 (abbreviated as SLP9.2 henceforth) targeted at the home user and Linux enthusiast crowd. Since I am already using SUSE 9.1 for my daily work on my IBM laptop, I was quite eager to check out 9.2. SLP9.1 is already a very polished Linux distribution, with tons of software ready to go. So here's a SuSE user's review of 9.2 after several weeks using the new version. Update: Also see some 9.2 screenshots with KDE and Gnome.
