The style looks much better as the old one. Ok, the desktop background is to dark, but... personaly, I think it is a progress.

What would be nice now if mandriva simplified the kde application like KUbuntu made. The guys at KUbuntu slightly changed the defaults, so that applicatios like konqueror doesn't display 15 buttons, then only 4 are needed. But that was a little bit of topic now.

Ho, no please, don't oversimplify KDE as in Kubuntu. I find plain KDE almost perfect as it is. It just needs more integration in Mandriva and better desktop applications, like Codeine for video player, kpdf for pdf reader, etc...

With lowering rankings, I have tried Suse and Kubuntu, and some more 1 liveCDs.

If you want to be able to work through the GUI, and have everything working in the end, Mandriva is still king. Although this Beta still needs work

+1 to that.

Mandriva still beats hand down all other "desktop" distros.

Sure, the included software in 2006 is "old", although this is caused by using yearly releases, instead of one every 6 months.

On the other hand, you don't need to upgrade every 6 months and the system is very stable ;)

Also, recently Mandriva is adding more and more value to the Club. IT is a good sign that Mandriva is at last listening to its subscribers (a.k. Club members)

Cheers

The PPC version was dropped as an official project at 9.2. It's now maintained by volunteers (mostly Danny) who don't have time to do a full point release, but they still keep the PPC Cooker tree more or less up to date and working. If you want to use Mandriva on PPC your best bet is to go with Cooker and follow the mailing list for help / support.

Upgrades

I hate to upgrade my systems. I still use LE2005 on my desktop, and it rocks. I dont understand why people needs to live in the bleeding edge.
If the 2007 become a must have, I will upgrade.
The only problem I found today is that some repositories are inconsistent, when I want to install a package that is listed, the file is not there, and thats a big problem that can make me upgrade, but with some pain in my heart...
