I did, I can't see any difference. Mail has been updated (as the Keychain reported). I've lost the icons of two external drives but apart from that, I don't feel anything different.

A nice fix (if it has been indeed fixed) is that the icons on the desktop should (finally) be placed correctly… one can only hope

I updated my PB. Haven't noticed anything different, really. My wife updated her Intel iMac. Also no real visible changes at this point. At least it worked. :-)

Yes but note that those are not new. 10.4.7 does not include any new security updates, it just includes all previous standalone security updates in case you missed any.

If you have .Mac, there are a lot fixes they made for it.

I installed it and for the first time had real problems. When rebooting it got to the loading OS X screen and the progress went very slowly all the way across and then it stuck at that point and wouldn't boot any further.

Fortunately I had a backup, not as recent as I should have had, so I booted off the external firewire drive and copied the really recent stuff to another external drive and then cloned the firewire drive to the main internal drive. Lost a few items but nothing important. Make sure you have a fresh backup folks. I know this but had been getting a bit complacent of late.

To be honest, I can't say for 100% sure that it was the fault of the update. I had been having some problems removing an application the last couple of days and may have contributed to the problem.

I got back up and running tonight and did a fresh clone so will try the update again tomorrow or the next day. I repeat, make a backup of any important stuff before installing any OS upgrade. Even though my clone was 6 weeks old I had copies of almost everything. A fresh clone would have saved me about three hours of work. :-)

Indeed. OSNews tends to write "MacOS" which is not the correct name. It's like writing "Tom" instead of "Thom" all the time

Every thing I read points out that the X stands for ten, not that it means mac os X, as in the letter x, but for the number 10.

Also who cares if he puts Mac and Os together. Its not a big deal, but I do recognise that it isnt correct.

Too many people have nothing better to do that to correct peoples spelling, grammar and punctuation. But I guess that is much easier than constructive criticism.

I will probably try to install the upgrade again today. A bit of a disaster yesterday, but only from a time aspect.

Yes, of course X is pronounced TEN, but that is ultimately irrelevant to the point and allowing personal, misguided agenda to affect the professionalism and accuracy of an article is downright silly. People may think it's nitpicking but it's more than that. Misspelling the name or leaving out the X altogether affects the accuracy of the search feature provided on the site, among other things. If I type in "OS X" to get the latest news on that OS, then the article posted just a few days ago titled "Apple To Unveil MacOS 10.5 at WWDC" doesn't even show up among the search results. So is being inconsistent on naming conventions helping the function or professionalism of this site? Apparently not.

Furthermore, it's a bit late to be making political statements on Apple's naming conventions... or was everyone looking the other way over the last decade as Apple printed up discs saying Mac OS 8 version 8.5", "Mac OS 9 v9.1", etc.

..and when the day comes and we move on to OS XI/OS 11, Im betting we'll still see things like "version 11.0.4" following it up.

Sorry to hear that caulktel, I'm using Safari right now (I'm actually a Firefox user) and the two fingered scrolling is working fine. :-)

combo includes every update from 10.4.0 on, where as the delta requires a user to update from 10.4.6

Besides the usual information on the update, there is this little note of caution that many many users tend to forget:

"You may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications installed, or if you've modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)"

So those of you moving apps out of the standard locations, using programs like Uno and such, be aware or you might end up with a corrupted update.

Third party installations like Application Enhancer, Growl, etc, booting into safe mode would probably help analyze what's wrong with the updated software (to boot in to safe mode hold the shift key while booting).

Hence my advice, when updating, remember to disable third party drivers and software; the update *COULD* fix issues with an API, and that API could be one on which the third party software rely on.

If you are experiencing problems, firstly, repair filesystem permissions, secondly, disable third party software and hardware support, install the update, then gradually activate each of the third party software until you reach a problem, take a note, then report the said issue to the respective software vendor(s).

Also, it isn't Apples responsibility to support peoples personal tweaks which they have done via using tools that tweak either undocumented parts or parts which have been documented as not to be modified.

For me, my installation went well, but then again, I have a pretty vanilla installation in respects to the software and hardware I have attached to this system.
